Device will not pair or complete setup
Most setup failures come from pairing mode, power, 2.4 GHz compatibility, phone permissions, or existing ownership.
Check these in order
- 1Confirm the exact model, official app, and required LED/voice pairing signal. Repeat the documented reset timing—not a generic button hold.
- 2Use the original/correctly rated power supply and move the device near the main router during setup.
- 3Place the setup phone on 2.4 GHz if required. Temporarily pause VPN/private relay and cellular switching; allow Bluetooth, Local Network, and Location permissions the official app needs.
- 4Re-enter the Wi‑Fi password. Older devices may require WPA2 or WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode and may fail on WPA3-only, hidden networks, or 5/6 GHz.
- 5If the app says already added/owned, remove it from the previous account or use the vendor’s official ownership-transfer process before resetting again.

Camera or smart device keeps going offline
Compare signal, power, whole-network events, and device-specific logs before assigning a static IP or replacing hardware.
Check these in order
- 1Check whether only this device, several nearby devices, or the whole network fails at the same time.
- 2Temporarily move the device near the router. Improvement identifies coverage; no improvement keeps power, firmware, account, and hardware in play.
- 3Watch LEDs for full reboots and test the correct adapter/cable/outlet. For PoE, verify cable condition and switch/injector power budget.
- 4Update firmware only through the official app/site. Check router logs and whether the device repeatedly changes address or loses authentication.
- 5After power and signal are stable, reserve its IP in the router if local integrations need a consistent address. Do not set a conflicting manual address on the device.

Live view works but recordings are missing
Check mode, schedule, detection, storage health, subscription, time, and upload path independently.
Check these in order
- 1Confirm continuous versus event recording, schedule, armed mode, detection zone, sensitivity, and whether person/package filters exclude the event.
- 2Check time zone, device time, and whether recordings appear under a different date or filtered event type.
- 3For SD/local storage, check capacity and health in the official app. Use endurance-rated cards and copy evidence before formatting.
- 4For cloud recording, verify subscription status, account, upload internet, and service outage. A working local live view does not prove cloud upload works.
- 5Walk-test the exact area in daylight and darkness. Reflections, windows, insects, backlighting, and PIR range can change detection dramatically.

Notifications are late, excessive, or absent
Separate camera detection from cloud delivery and the phone’s own notification controls.
Check these in order
- 1Check whether the event exists in the camera timeline. If yes, detection worked and notification delivery is the failed layer.
- 2Verify app notification permission, focus/do-not-disturb, battery optimization/background activity, and the correct logged-in account on the phone.
- 3Confirm alert types, schedule, zones, cooldown, and per-camera settings in the camera app.
- 4Reduce false alerts by excluding roads/trees, lowering sensitivity slightly, and cleaning spider webs—without disabling security-critical areas.
- 5Test on Wi‑Fi and cellular. Delays on both may be vendor cloud; delays on one can be phone/network filtering.

Protect camera and smart-home privacy
Account security, updates, placement, sharing, network isolation, and data retention matter more than a hidden device name.
Check these in order
- 1Use a unique account password and multi-factor authentication. Secure the connected email account and never share recovery codes.
- 2Review shared users, login history, linked assistants/integrations, and old phones. Remove access that is no longer needed.
- 3Update firmware, router software, apps, and hubs through official channels. Replace abandoned devices that no longer receive security updates when risk is meaningful.
- 4Use guest/IoT isolation where practical and disable unnecessary port forwarding, UPnP exposure, remote administration, microphone, or cloud features.
- 5Set reasonable retention, export important evidence promptly, and understand whether footage is local, vendor-cloud, or shared with third parties.
